El Médano is a small, former fishing village in the south of Tenerife which still retains much of its original charm and hasn’t yet been overrun by tourism. This beautiful bay at the foot of the gorgeous Montaña Roja Nature Reserve has become popular with windsurfers and kite surfers worldwide who come for the excellent conditions. It is also a great location for visiting the island.
You are only 45 minutes from the capital Santa Cruz or a visit to the north of the island which is rich in culture and traditions. Similarly, if you head straight up the mountain from El Médano, you arrive in Vilaflor (the highest village in Spain) and are right in the heart of the Mount Teide National Park.
And if you are more of a party animal, we are only 15 minutes from the wild nightlife of Los Cristianos and Las Americas. This island really does have something for everyone!
It is located only 10 minutes from the busy Tenerife South airport making it the perfect spot to come and learn Spanish with direct links to cities and countries all over Europe and beyond.
A taxi will cost you between 10-15€ to the centre of town.
There are a variety of different buses you can take to get to El Médano although you do have to make a stop and change at the roundabout at San Isidro.
Airport – San Isidro: Take bus number 111 or 450 heading north to Santa Cruz. After only a few minutes on the motorway, the bus will come off and stop at a big roundabout. You must get off here and walk to the other side of the roundabout to get your next bus.
San Isidro – El Médano: Take bus 470 or 116 heading down into El Médano. The bus will only take 6 minutes and you will arrive in the centre of town.
